The Benefits of an Internship

When beginning freshmen look at the requirements to complete their majors, few of them think about the one class requirement, the internship. Not all majors require an internship, but many do. Students usually do not start thinking about their internship program until they complete their sophmore year.
Internship programs are sometimes arranged by head professors of each department. I am a sports management major, and was given a few limited options. However, students should be encouraged to seek the most profitable internship for their area of study because these internships can sometimes turn into career jobs.
Before making a choice, students should consider if the job has a salary or not and even be willing to take the risk and work for free. Other options include a paid internships to pay the bills. Students must also determine if the internship looks good on their resume. Some students seek only to complete the credit hours required, while others view an internship as an entrance to a given company.
Matt Scobell, a junior at CCC, is completing an internship at a local financial firm. Because of his good reputation and strong work ethic, the firm is offering to help him get wherever he wants to go in his career. I worked an internship last summer at United Soccer League, and I will be working full-time there after graduation.
All students must keep in mind that a company will not forget a good work ethic. Do not take an internship for granted only to complete the hours, but instead view it as a good learning experience that will enhance a career.
