Since our last update, we spent the rest of the summer counseling alongside the staff at the various camps we visited. At Camp Victory, however, we did not counsel; rather we assisted the staff in doing various jobs around camp such as refereeing games and doing some cleaning jobs throughout the week. We actually counseled by ourselves during our second week at Camp Calvary. Counseling taught us a lot about ourselves, but more importantly, it taught us a lot about God and the power of prayer. For example, there was one special young lady in my cabin at The Wilds whom I was given the privilege of counseling. Despite her struggles, she surrendered to full-time ministry at the end of the week. It was such a blessing. Also, it was incredible to see the way that God worked in the lives of the 65 teens at The Anchorage. Being a part of that was not only awesome but so humbling. It was great to be able to sit back and watch God change lives.
We spent most of our weekends traveling, but we were able to relax and have some fun, too. One weekend the team was able to visit New York City for the day. With Mike's cousin as our tour guide, we got to visit lots of cool places such as Times Square and Little Italy. Mrs. Wild and I did a whole lot of shopping, too, which is always fun!
The last week of our summer was spent at High Point Camp in Geigertown, Pennsylvania, where we also spent the week co-counseling. I think the entire team was in agreement that it was a great way to end the summer, despite the record-breaking temperatures. We had a lot of fun even though we were all punished in the Duck Pond on Friday for "Bringing the Florida heat to Pennsylvania." That water was freezing! I got to be one of the team leaders that week; and since my team lost, I had to get slimed with lake mud and had to go back in the Duck Pond… again! It was all in good fun though. The biggest blessing for me happened on the last night of camp. All summer long I had prayed that I would be able to lead someone to the Lord and on Friday night, God saw fit to answer my prayer.
The drive home was definitely an interesting one. Our trailer lost one of its fenders, and we got a flat tire somewhere in Virginia. The guys fixed the tire temporarily until we found a Wal-Mart tire center. God was so good to us, though. Even though the shop had been closed for 30 minutes, the man that worked there changed the tire for us anyway. Praise God! We arrived home on Sunday morning after an approximately 20 hour drive.
I know I can speak on behalf of the entire team when I say that this summer has been a learning and growing experience for all of us. A huge "Thank You" goes out to everyone who prayed for us this summer. Please continue to pray that we will live out the lessons we have learned and that we will never forget the amazing ways that God worked in all of our lives.
