Hundreds of hours of work culminated in an excellent performance of the fall play. The cast and crew of Clearwater's production of "The Importance of Being Earnest," invested their entire semester into making the play enjoyable. Audience members say they succeeded.

"It's a great performance. It's very funny and very clever," audience member, D.D. Bolan said.

The two-act play by Oscar Wild contained witty one-liners of British humor which evoked the audience's chuckles.

"From the reaction of the audience tonight, I really think they enjoyed it and understood the humor," Dr. Robert Cundiff, technical director, said.

The cast and crew completed 4 performances (2 hours and thirty minutes long) in 4 days. The task was not easy, but those involved took the challenges in stride.

"I loved it! It's been one of the best opportunities in my life," lead actor, Joshua Quinn, said.

Travis Freeburg and Joshua Quinn played the lead roles of two friends who fall in love with two young ladies, played by Shannon Markovitch and Jessica Bell. The young men determine to win the ladies' hearts, and their efforts entail a bit of deception and certainly some surprise.

Shalom Ocampo, Sean Stewart, Clayton Martin, Cynthia Hook, and Faith Henry played supporting roles.

"I thought Shalom was very good, and of course, Cynthia always brings an element of genuine humor," faculty member Mr. Robert Carver said.

As the cast heard the audience respond with laughter, they knew their work was worth all the time and effort. Twelve weeks filled with 6 hours of practice and added hours of memorizing lines finally paid off.

"The performance was great! I think the dialogue is superb," faculty member Mr. Bill Ritchie said. "It must have been an incredible task to memorize that amount of dialogue."

Aside from the visible stars of the show, the performance would never have been a success without stage crew, makeup, costuming, and lighting. Over twenty people worked behind the scenes.

Anyone interested in obtaining a DVD of the performance should contact Dr. Bob Cundiff at robertcundiff@clearwater.edu or 727-726-1153, ext. 244.
