To concentrate, he's tucked away at the Baldpate Inn in upper New York state in the dead of winter, with the only key--he thinks.
To his chagrin, he's interrupted by--a damsel in distress, some nasty crooks, a mystery woman, and a corrupt sheriff!
"Seven Keys to Baldpate" is a mystery/comedy written by the famous George M. Cohan nearly a century ago.
The play is based on a novel of the same name, written by Earl Derr Biggers. For mystery buffs, Biggers is the same author who wrote all the Charlie Chan mysteries in the first half of the 1900s.
Little known to most modern audiences, as the Charlie Chan novels were turned into film, so "Seven Keys to Baldpate," the novel and the play, became the subject of several feature films, including two silent films and four other feature films in the 1930s and 1940s and 1950s.
George M. Cohan wrote and starred in the first theatrical production of the play, and in the first silent film version in 1917.
