On this year's special day, February 21, students, faculty and staff were divided into three groups for prayer time. These groups rotated, praying in small prayer groups and with larger groups in the gym. In between prayer times the groups ate lunch. A special time for personal devotions was also scheduled.
The guest speaker in chapel was Pastor Andrew Haney of Keystone Bible Church. He preached from James 4:1-6 about submitting to God. Haney also focused on the root of conflicts in our lives, talking about three specific matters:
1. Conflict is rooted in idolatry. This conflict is taking place in lustfulness of the human heart.
2. Conflicts separate people from God. James 4:4-5
3. God resists the proud and gives a greater grace to those who are humble. James 4:6
After rotating groups of prayer partners, the day concluded with a second chapel and time in prayer in student devotional groups.
Mr. Robert Carver, Bible faculty member, said that his prayer group got the students to open up about things that were going on in their lives. He also said that that group still memos prayer requests so that they can pray for each another.
Student Emily Engelsgjerd said, "Day of Prayer really helped me to focus on others."
One verse that was emphasized was Matthew 21:22, "And in all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive."
