Coach Williams does not become so focused on winning, or on self gain that he forgets why players play the game. He has proven to be an effective coach who is having a positive influence on his team. For example, he often tells the ladies of the basketball team often that basketball is just a game, and that there are more important events in life.
"If you aren't having fun, I will take you off the court, sit you on the bench and ask why you aren't having fun," said Williams to his team.
Although he is a fanatic about the game and loves to win, Williams is not willing to put a player down or to hurt her. He also is an effective communicator: he tells players what they are doing wrong in a constructive way. Williams understands all the events and personal issues that can affect a team. He is willing to work with each player.
Most importantly, Williams loves the Lord. Team members say it shows in his face, in his speech and in his attitude. He daily encourages the girls in the Lord, starting each practice or game in devotions, which is edifying to each one of them. He has proven to be a great testimony for the Lord.
Among the cherished coaches in the history of the college, Dean Williams, his attitude and his kindness will be remembered and appreciated.
