Each new CCC semester begins with a Christian Life Conference. This semester, the guest speaker was evangelist Steve Pettit, founder of the Steve Pettit Evangelistic Association. He is also director of Northland Camp in Wisconsin. The conference was held January 12-17.

Though Pettit is involved full-time at Northland, he maintains his schedule as an evangelist throughout the year. Accompanying Mr. Pettit was an eight-member musical evangelistic team.

With an interesting blend of talents, their vocals and instrumentals were a blessing each service, according to many who attended.

All were multi-talented: Amy, with flute and pennywhistle; David, the classical guitar; Philip played the violin and viola; Rebekah accompanied on the piano. Two couples were newly married in May 2007: Mike and Bridget, Joel and Megan. Mike and Megan sang, Joel played the cello, and Bridget teaches the Pettit's son.

Mr. Pettit spoke on topics including guarding one's heart, the parable of the wheat and the tares, and being broken to be used by God. Each message was a challenge and the Lord spoke to many hearts on campus.

An interesting change to the usual schedule was the inclusion of the bi-annual Day of Prayer in the middle of the week. On this day, when classes are canceled and time is set aside for both special chapel services and group and individual prayer, the students were able to focus on an entire day of praising and fellowshipping with the Lord.

Shaunte West-Raye and Dianne Stewart, both new students this semester, enjoyed their first CLC and Day of Prayer. "This whole conference has been so refreshing for me. There wasn't a message that I didn't have to go back to my room and pray," said Dianne. Shaunte appreciated the Day of Prayer concept: "I like the fact that we were able to commit one day out of the semester and focus on God and how mighty but also loving He is."

The conference was also a blessing to current students. Junior Abigail Hancock was especially blessed by the music ministry of the Pettit Team: "They poured their hearts into what they were playing, and I think it caused a campus-wide closeness to God."

Freshman Lindsey Link shared Abby's sentiments: "The Christian Life Conference was like a breath of fresh air in the way the Pettit team challenged our hearts and stirred our campus. It was enjoyable to hear old hymns set to different tunes and intriguing to listen to the amazing talents of the musicians and singers."

Many among the faculty, staff and students body said that the spring 2008 Christian Life Conference and Day of Prayer were a blessing, with an emphasis of intensifying a relationships with God.
