Spring semester is in full swing and work loads for some are already reaching epic proportions. The newness of matriculation and "syllabus" week has worn off and student stress levels are increasing rapidly.
Carrying a full course load, 20 or more hours of work, and for some, marriages, kids, and bills, it is quite easy for students to feel burned out and worn to a frazzle. Many students, however, have unique ways of re-charging and re-fueling, in preparation for the weeks to come.
The Clearwater area is home to many attractions, ranging from upscale shopping and restaurants to golf courses and arcades. CCC students take advantage of such amenities, using their limited free time to re-charge and fellowship with friends.
Countryside Mall, a mid-sized mall in north Clearwater, has a variety of stores and restaurants, offering something for everyone. Jordan Sweetser, a freshman commuter, loves walking around the mall. "As a poor college kid, I love just walking around the mall and window shopping," she said.
Sophomore Paul Witmar from Sarasota, enjoys target shooting at Knight's Shooting Sports, located off of Ulmerton Road. "Shooting relieves stress and with a .22, I can shoot it all day Saturday and not worry about the expense of ammunition," he said. He hopes to take his girlfriend Julie along soon to learn how to shoot.
CCC campus also offers many things for students to do, with little or no expense. The Cove, a campus snack and coffee shop with food available for purchase, also features Nintendo Wii's and Dish Network, displayed on beautiful plasma TV's. Students can watch the news, play games, or just chill and drink an ice cold, bottled, Mexican coke.
The gym offers a full array of activities--basketball, volleyball, and other organized sports.
Students can exercise in the fitness rooms in the dorms, or walk around the outdoor track with friends.
On occasion, students can enjoy cookouts, film nights, and pizza nights organized by student life. On campus, everyone can find something to do, regardless of transportation or finances.
With schoolwork, household responsibilities, and part-time jobs, it is very easy to feel burned out. CCC students and staff alike take advantage of the numerous entertainment options available on the campus level and in the local surrounding areas.
